Celebration of Cycling

We held a very successful 'Celebration of Cycling' in the Market Square, on a sunny but chilly spring day.  The event was held in conjunction with Walk Alton to celebrate the launch of our new joint map as well as our new website.

Five groups of cyclists rode in from different locations around the town, and were joined by the Cycling UK Alton Saturday group, as well as numerous others who found their way there.

On arrival in the Market Square cyclists were greeted by Alton Town Mayor Cllr Annette Eyre, and Chair of East Hampshire District Council Cllr Graham Hill.  We thank them both for attending and saying a few fitting words about Cycle Alton and sustainable travel in our area.

We also thank the Community Cupboard, the Market Hotel, Pizza Express, Dill and Bluebell Cakehouse for providing free and discounted refreshments to everyone who attended.

Many cyclists took advantage of some bicycle maintenance from Hilary and Leon, as well as having their bikes security-marked by three Hampshire PCSOs, who reported a total of 37 bikes had been marked, as well as numerous security stickers given out.

We thank everybody who gave up their time to make this event such a success!
